Well Spring felt more like Winter up until just recently, so we stayed mostly in hibernation dreaming of the day we could move in. Daniel’s Dad came into town this week, and he and Daniel worked endlessly from sun-up until well into the night. Together, along with the help of some others, they completed the frame and roof and more.
Here are some questions we have been asked lately:
Will you be traveling in the home?
No. We will move it to wherever we want to reside, but as far as long-term traveling, those are not our plans. We would love to travel sans tiny home! The trailer is quite large making cross country trips a little tedious (and expensive on gas). Once we have a permanent location for our little casa, we plan to save and travel without the strain of a mortgage.
How big is your tiny home?
The trailer we purchased is 8′ x 30′ but we’ll have 7′ x 29′ liveable space with two lofts.
Did you buy building plans?
Yes, we did! We purchased our building plans from tinyhousebuild.com, but plan on making our own modifications.
Are you building it yourselves?
Yes, with the help of family and friends! We may need to enlist the help of others as we continue, but the one way we are trying to cut out on expenses is by doing most of the labor ourselves.
How much is it going to cost?
Well, we won’t have a grand total until it’s all said and done, but we are budgeting for $20k. The house may be small, but quality is not something we want to compromise. After all, it is our home. Our biggest expense was the trailer. We tossed around different ideas like buying and repairing a used one, but with this being the very foundation of our home, we thought it best to invest in a new, custom-built trailer.
When will you be done?
Our goal is by the end of Summer! But we are in our full-fledged wedding season, so we may need to reevaluate that deadline as the date approaches.
Here’s a compilation of phone and big camera photos taken throughout the week!
We don’t own a truck, so we borrowed the church van to transport our windows and door :) Our pensive girl. She’s always so curious and wants to be right where the action is. They worked into the night nearly every night. Eva Luna, always the comedic relief.
